Sharon Whalen
Quorum Gallery Resident Artist
About
Even as a small child Sharon had a camera in her hand. A childhood curiosity evolved into a lifelong fascination with photography and creating new images. For the last decade, she has formally transitioned her focus from corporate executive toward photography as a dedicated art form. It is a continuation of a journey that allows her to travel near and far in the world. Looking through her lens, her intentions shift, and she finds herself observing the world with a heightened focus, capturing the environmental life unfolding around her. Drawn to the fleeing moments of early morning and evening light where the sun paints the landscape and nature in golden and pink hues and their reflections. Every location tells a different story; the narrative is rewritten by the season, the weather, and the serendipitous subjects who happen to walk into the frame.
She chooses photography because it is the perfect intersection of technical precision, full creativity and interesting compositions and scale.
Once an image is captured, the journey continues through a high-touch transformation into fine art, determining a unique way to showcase the image such as with gold leafing or glassless presentations. From the initial click of the shutter to the final mounting, every step is a carefully considered process intended to evoke a sense of calm, intrigue, and thoughtfulness in the viewer.
