About
Jim is a painter, art curator, and dedicated instructor whose work reflects both technical discipline and expressive exploration. He studied at the Scottsdale Artists' School and alongside a range of contemporary painters from the Southwest to New York, experiences that continue to shape his evolving practice.
Rooted in a deep connection to the landscape, Jim often begins his process through plein air painting, immersing himself directly in the environment. Back in the studio, he builds on these outdoor studies, gradually shifting from representation toward a more abstract visual language defined by expressive marks, dynamic shapes, and gestural movement. Through this approach, Jim transforms observation into emotion—creating work that is less about describing what is seen and more about conveying what is deeply felt.
